December 4, 2008 - Mom's Day Out!

Did you hear that? Those were sighs of relaxation. Some table groups chose to enjoy a nice breakfast together while others spent "girl time" at the Red P. Many opted for retail therapy and reduced stress by crossing things off their Christmas list. Regardless of the activity that was chosen, it was a great time for all.
November 20, 2008 - Craft Day

Chocolate, sprinkles, ribbon and glue were flying at our make-and-take Christmas gift session. Andrea showed us how to make not just one - but TWO - fun crafts to make and give. While some moms were decorating pretzels, others worked on their decoupage photo frames. Lots of time to chat and visit as we wrapped up meetings for this Winter session.
November 13, 2008 - Dr. Phyllis Oster
Started off the day with a delicious breakfast (hand-carved ham with all the trimmings), decorations and Christmas music to get us in the holiday spirit. Rudolph was even there to greet us at the door. Dr. Oster gave a comprehensive talk on the latest findings in the area of women's health. Then she took questions from the floor. (Everything you wanted to know about women's medical issues...AND were able to ask!) We were grateful to have someone so knowledgeable (and personable) answer our questions and address our concerns.November 6, 2008 - Game Day
Game Day is always fun! "Mommies Rule" was a creative spin off of the show "Majority Rules". The ladies were presented with statements pertaining to motherhood. Within a few minutes each table had to come to a consensus whether they found this statment to be true or false. The game gave us a chance to think about some important issues and decisions we face as moms in 2008. All participants were good sports and the winning table was rewarded with a $50 gift certificate for dinner!
October 30, 2008 - Kitti Coburn
No tricks (only treats) for breakfast this morning. Kitti Coburn reminded us that "the hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world". Her words of encouragement inspired us to live up to our potential as mothers. She ended with a special blessing so that we may have a positive impact on our husband, children, extended family/friends and on those in our sphere of influence.
October 23, 2008 - Lizette Bande
Table 4 put out a fantastic spread with caramel apples and marshmallow peeps to go along with the spooky decorations. Lizette Bande, from CHOC Parent Ed, went over different types of media violence and the effects that they might have on our children. She suggested some tools to help monitor media content and recommended using the Safefromthestart.org website to help reduce children's exposure to media violence.
October 16, 2008 - Mary Kay Esswein
Through a beautiful scrapbook-like presentation, Mary Kay shared her family with us - we got to see her kids grow up before our eyes. She included parenting tips and helpful Christian resources that she used to raise her children. Tears flowed as we learned how Mary Kay dealt with the loss of her precious daughter, Brianna. She inspired us with God's message of hope in the midst of the darkness and challenged us to think of ways to help our family grow "from here to eternity" .
October 9, 2008 - Peggy Duquesnel
We enjoyed the beautiful music of musician Peggy Duquesnel as she shared a few of her songs from her latest CD entitled, "Show Me Your Way". She reflected on how her parents had passed on their love of music and faith to her. Peggy also entertained us with a few selections from her days as the organist for the Angels and the Mighty Ducks. We discussed the gifts or talents that we hope to pass along to our children.
October 2, 2008 - Suzy Martyn
Cha-ching! Suzy Martyn shared her system for training children to learn responsibility by doing chores. Tips were given on how to teach our children to “grow money” from the time they can walk. Personal stories from real life as well as her practical answers to our questions encouraged us to put those ideas in practice this week.
Sept. 25, 2008 - Opening Day
Opening day of Moms Together was a huge success. As always, it was wonderful to reconnect with old friends and meet some new ones, too. We started off the day with a lovely breakfast prepared by our "in house chef", Ronni. The moms were introduced to our fun leadership group by a clever song presented by the committee. Pastor Jack Sheets gave us a glimpse of what a super mom really is in God's eyes. He encouraged us to look to Christ as we realize the important ministry that lies within our own home. All agreed it's going to be a great year.
